Summer is here and the arrival of the warmer weather encourages us out from the gloomy hibernation of the winter months and into the sunshine of the outdoors (fingers crossed!). The Pheasant may be tucked away amongst the hills of a rambler’s paradise, but don’t let that mislead you into thinking we’re only a foodie destination; there is also plenty to see and do around the local area to entertain a full day out.
The rolling Cheshire countryside is famed for its stunning local walks and cycle routes. The Pheasant Inn is perfectly situated within the heart of the popular 34 mile Sandstone Trail, one of the finest walks in North West England. Don’t worry if the distance sounds a bit daunting! There are various alternate routes and paths to suit each person; a particularly popular route which passes by The Pheasant takes just 45 minutes. Whichever you decide on, stop off and relax midway for food and drink in our beautiful beer garden with panoramic views across rural Cheshire – you can always burn the calories in the second half! What is more, we even welcome your canine friends here at The Pheasant – because even dogs need to sit back and relax sometimes with a cold beverage!
For those with a sweet tooth, just a stone’s throw away is award-winning Cheshire Farm Ice-Cream, fun for adults and children alike. There are over 50 different flavours of ice-cream and sorbet for you to sample and for those interested in the method behind the frozen madness you can view the art of ice-cream production in the Artisan Room (booking necessary). A guaranteed fun day out; there is also an array of outdoor adventure play areas, from zip wires to climbing frames and even an animal corner to keep the kids entertained whilst you indulge!
For history buffs, in neighbouring Tarporley are the romantic medieval ruins of Beeston Castle. This popular visitor attraction is steeped in almost 4,000 years of heritage, built by the 6th Earl of Chester in 1220. The self-proclaimed ‘Castle of Rock’ is famed for its spectacular views, taking in no less than eight counties on a clear day. For nature lovers, the surrounding woodlands have a selection of wildlife trails – you may even come across the hidden treasure of Richard II!
If you’re looking for something a little bit different, Cheshire Workshops are just down the road. Try your hand at candle making using a variety of colours of wax, carefully moulding and creating your own personalised masterpiece. Also on hand is an assortment of arts and crafts activities; get your creativity flowing with pottery painting and sand art, or take home your own handmade key-ring or fridge magnet.
