THE STORY OF THE INN

OUR HISTORY

The Pheasant Inn has a storied local history in Burwardsley, where it has been known as one of three ale houses present in the area since 1650. It has been licensed ever since, with only a brief lapse in the late 18th century.

The pub only became known as The Pheasant in the 1970’s. In the middle of the 19th century, it was called The Leches Arms, and then became The Carden Arms around 1869, after its owners, the Leche family of Carden Park.

Our inn has certainly been the host of a colorful cast of characters, from the Ellis family’s loving Dalmatian Henry (who was a dab hand at clearing tables… with his tail) to the white parrot of the Greenhaughs, a fixture in the pub window!

The Pheasant Inn was taken over by the Nelson family in 2004, who became only the fifth family in the Pheasant’s history to own it.

In that time, the property has been lovingly improved and extensively refurbished , with its tradition and charm restored and maintained throughout.
